For our June meeting we are pleased to have two guest speakers from the insurance industry – Alex Alfred and Andrew Count of Hagerty. Their company offers a unique type of auto coverage that is popular with car collectors and different from the mainstream industry. This is the second of two meetings on the topic of insurance.

Longtime club member Trevor McAlpine will be leading an open discussion on the topic of insurance. We’ll focus on automotive but we also want to share an update on the club’s liability coverage and the challenge of increasing premiums. We’ll also talk about the benefits (real or otherwise) of customer loyalty to a particular provider, combining home and car insurance, and the general trend in recent years for premiums to outpace the rate of inflation.

Our next online meeting is April 21st at 8pm. All welcome. We will be showing photos and sharing stories of past Saab Owner’s Conventions. There was a time when we could meet other owners, buy parts and other Saab gear, share stories and explore new places along the way. We can talk about Carlile, the Canadian SOC, and trips to Trollhättan also.
The club wants to thank Ron for what was a facinating trip back into the early days of automobiles in Canada. It was also facinating to see how a project to recreate a historic vehicle from scratch can be organized – from reverse engineering the plans, sourcing period materials where available, and handcrafting where necessary. Even navigating the complexities of fundraising during a global pandemic is not something most of us would be prepared to take on, but Ron showed us that all of these challenges are achieveable. If you want to learn more about the project go to fossmobile.ca, and here is a direct link to the project’s fundraising page. UPDATE: Ron was on CBC Radio’s As It Happens on April 1st, you can listen to a recording here. His part starts at 9:44.
