After the past winter, and current lockdown, maybe you want to get out? Maybe your Saab needs some bits and pieces?
I have recently visited three you-pull-your-own junkyards. They are open! And because few other people are looking for Saab parts, it’s easy to physically distance!
The yard I visited with the most Saabs was Mike’s Auto parts up on the escarpment in Stoney Creek. They are open seven days a week. The selection is mainly NG9-3 sedans. There’s also an OG9-3 convertible, a 9-7x, and a 2001 9-5 wagon with still nice looking ventilated tan seats. The last won’t last long one way or another, as the windows are open. At least they are all in one area, unlike the other two yards I visited.
Someone has been by to grab all the NG9-3 coil packs, or I would have gotten some. However, I’ve gotten a 6-CD in-dash changer for $20, and it’s in good condition and works fine. Also I got a steel grey hood, which was less of a bargain at $60, but it’s better than what’s on my car. And I’ve gotten some other bits and pieces such as a side mirror cover in the correct steel gray, and some of those NG9-3 three-tab headlight retainers that break so often.
I also visited Standard Auto Wreckers after a tip from a co-worker who lives in the east end. He showed me a picture of a silver 2003 9-5. So I went there and got the bit of mirror trim that fell off my 9-5 during the winter. The rest of the car was no great shakes. Apparently there was an NG9-3 also back there, but I did not go looking for it. They are also open 7 days a week.
Finally Cookstown Auto Wreckers re-opened recently, and I went there on the first day. Unfortunately many of the Saabs they had last fall have been crushed over the winter, and the selection isn’t great. There is a 9-3 wagon, and a pretty picked over 9-3 Aero with the V6, and a lonely 9-5..
