I am looking for some “real life” thoughts surrounding 9-7X 5.3i ownership.
I’ve owned quite a few Saabs over the years (1996 900SE, 1992 9000 SPG, 1999 9-5 sedan, 2005 and 2004 9-5 Aero SportCombi, 1993 900S) and I have had the 9-7X in my head for a long time now as my next Saab.
First off, I have heard many comments surrounding the 4.2i being too underpowered for this truck … and yet the numbers of the 5.3i are not that much better. Is there really that much of a difference? I need it as a people mover, not a towing vehicle.
I have asked at Saab Central and over at the TrailVoy forums and most people suggest that it is a good to great truck. Keep up on your fluid changes, expect some oil burn, and you will be OK.
Is there anyone local that I might be able to chat with? Visit you and chat over a coffee? Have a look around the truck?
It has been a while since I was in one and need to make sure that it is the right vehicle for me if I’m going to make the move as I typically end up keeping my rides for a very long time.
