Update 3:
To clarify, we’ll be meeting at the Tim Horton’s in the plaza on the SE corner of Hurontario and Mayfield at 10:00 AM Sunday. Departure on the tour is 10:30 AM. With luck we will be ahead of traffic, and have plenty of time at the streetcar museum without the day getting too long for everyone, particularly kids (hope to see some families come!).
If you are coming from the Mayfield Road exit of the 410, turn left at Colonel Bertram (lights just before you get to Hurontario, turn right into the plaza, and make your way to the Tim Horton’s.
Update 2:
- The Fall Colour Tour is open to everyone. You don’t have to be a member of the Club, but we do hope you bring a Saab!
- The Club will be covering the cost of admission to the Streetcar Museum. If you participate in the Tour, your admission is covered. This is a great chance to visit the museum and see and ride streetcars from Toronto and from other parts of the province and Canada.
p.s. Kids love the museum, and the museum is kid-friendly! So bring the family!
Update 1:
The route will be about 65 km. Most of it will be on nice (and hopefully less-travelled) rural roads at 80 km/h. We will pass through Glen Williams, Limehouse, probably Cheltenham, and maybe Campbell’s Cross–I haven’t decided on a couple of route variations yet. We’ll have at least a couple of photo stops in parks on the way.
The streetcar musuem has some food available:
East End Café for Ice Cream – we try to keep that going until the middle weekend of Oct but with weather – no guarantees. The West end usually has Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, and some microwavable meals as well as pop, chocolate bars, chips.
Also, if people are interested in a “real” meal afterwards, does anyone have a suggestion? We will be a relatively close to Guelph, Rockwood, and Acton, and Milton will be on the way for those heading for the 401. I saw a couple of restaurants at Mohawk Racetrack right by the 401.
Original post:
Funny writing this during one of the first warm spells of the summer.
The Saab Club of Canada’s Fall Colours Tour will be held on Sunday October 5th. The detailed routing is to be determined; however we will be leaving around 10 AM or 11 AM from the north end of the 410 at the top of Brampton. We will cover some nice and hopefully uncrowded scenic roads for the next two or three hours, and we finish at the Halton County Radial Railway streetcar museum. This is located on Guelph Line a short distance south of Highway 7.
We’ll have a chance for a picnic lunch, and rides on vintage streetcars (up to a hundred years old) along the right-of-way of the old Toronto-Guelph radial streetcar line. This gives a chance for drivers to relax and gawk like passengers.
Saab may not have ever made a streetcar (as far as I know), although Scania buses are prominent on Saab brochures from the 1980s.
Hi Ed,
I would like to take part but am not sure on the timing –
Would you please update the arrangements – i.e., confirm departure time from SE corner Tim Horton’s as either 10 am or 11 am?
Thanks
Randall
Hi Randall;
Sorry about the confusion. I’ve updated the event info. We’re meeting at 10:00 AM, and departing at 10:30 AM. Hopefully we can miss the rush of the other leaf peepers, and have a bit more time at the streetcar museum.
where exactly do we meet?
Hi Darius;
It will be at a Tim Horton’s at the corner of Mayfield Road and Hurontario (Highway 10). There seem to be two at that corner, we will use the one on the SE corner (the other one may be in an Essor). I will update the event info shortly. Thanks for asking!
