Update: Saab OEM parts 10% off plus free shipping in Canada

Update March 2014: free shipping can be had for orders under $100. Best to talk to Budd’s or other Saab dealers for the latest situation. The dropping Canadian dollar is not helping prices, but that’s going to be true of ordering online from any US vendor. I found Saab OEM prices to be still competitive with my most recent orders this month.

Update January 2014: the free shipping is now for orders over $100. You can talk to the parts folks at Budd’s for any questions. Orders less than $100 will still receive reasonable shipping costs–probably much less than many of the on-line places.

Update: ordered Monday, package sitting on the front porch Thursday evening. It was a box plenty big enough to package the Toronto white pages telephone directory (for those of you who remember such things). Inside it, along with some air bladders, was a bulb that’s half the size of the eraser at the end of a pencil (hey, you remember pencils with erasers?).

I just visited Budd’s Saab, which has relocated to South Service Road just west of Dorval Drive. There is no longer a Saab sign, but there are plenty of Saabs in the lot.

Budd’s offers a 10% discount on parts to Saab Club of Canada members. Their prices are MSRP and pretty reasonable.

What is more interesting to Club members who are beyond the GTHA is that, for the very same price that you can order in a part and pick it up, Saab Parts NA offers free drop shipping. What this means is you can phone in your order, and it will show up anywhere in Canada in 3-5 business days via FedEx. No shipping charges, no duty charges. Same as if you ordered the part and picked it up at Budd’s or another Saab dealer. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small part or something big like a windshield or bumper: shipping is free.

Also, if you totally need a part quicker, there is reasonably-priced express shipping available. You probably won’t be able to get a windshield shipped that way anyway, but for say an engine part, it’s a good way to get the part you need in a day or two.

I’m testing out the shipping. I anticipate one of the one-off bulbs in my car will arrive at my house by the end of the week.

  1. I’d start by looking in junkayrds for a good foglight for whatever Saab you have. You can try the dealer, of course, but it might be very expensive if it is even available.
